What is the best kind of World of Warcraft class and race to start out with?

By admin | August 10, 2009

if I do decide to give this thing a try, I don’t want to choose a crappy class and race and find out days later that I made a bad choice.

The early levels should be just focussed on fun anyways and you don’t really start investing in it until you get to around level 20-30. You should initially choose whatever appeals most to you. In my opinion:

priest might be the toughest as it’s primarily a healing class (but you’ll make a lot of friends since they’re needed a lot)
Wariors aren’t as fun to play as they ought to be (I got to 16 before I got bored)
Warlocks and hunters are nice to solo with since you always have a pet to keep you company
So what I think you might want to do is try a couple that seem appealing and level them to about 5-10 which should only take a short while. If there’s something in the gameplay that you don’t like, then switch to another class since that annoyance is likely to be pretty fundamental going forward.

Otherwise you should be content that Blizzard didn’t add any really lame classes and they consistenly re-balance them by changing the rules http://www.usfine.com/World-of-Warcraft-USA-c-51.html

Well, if you have Burning Crusade I would recommend a Blood Elf Hunter. I love hunters. And Blood Elves rock. Definitely go Horde. Alliance sucks. Class is more personal choice on what you want to do. If you want to be a tank be a Warrior or Paladin. If you like DPS go Hunter or Mage or something. If you like hanging back and healing go Priest. It’s all up to you. But I love hunters because they can get a pet at lvl 10 and it’s really easy to not die.

All of them are good choices, it just depends on what kind of character you like to play as. As far as races go, its all about the looks. In the long run it really doesn’t matter at all.

    For classes, try the basics.

    Melee damage taker – Warrior.
Melee damage dealer (Sneaky) – Rogue.
Ranged physcial damage dealer with pet – Hunter
Ranged magic damage dealer with pet – Warlock
Ranger magic damage dealer in general – Mage
    Healer – Priest
    Hybrid – Shaman or Druid

I would probably start out with anything except a rogue because on all the servers I have been on their clothes seem to be the highest priced.
I started with a human warlock then switched to a tauren druid. Then again things changed and my main is a Night Elf priest.
Races however is an extremely personal choice. You should take a look at "racials". I know that orcs and blood elves tend to have better racials than others, except for maybe a night elf that can turn invisible when stuck in a bad situation!

Paladin will give you high armor, good damage, and self-healing, so paladin in my opinion would be best to begin. As it offers a lot of variety end-game and very durable beginnings. It’s a brilliantly well-rounded class, but also very gear dependent later on.

Race doesn’t matter. Human is extra reputation, dwarf is extra strength, and Blood Elf is more mana power and stuff.

go with the looks of the character, what you like then, choose what you want to be, if there isnt an option for the class you want choose you second favorit race, the one that looks better too your eye
