I like hitting stuff from a distance, so no warrior for me.

Depends a lot on your play style, and what you think you'd like to do ultimately with your character. If you like to play solo a lot, then hunter or warlock for sure.

If however you plan on playing in a group, you might want to consider looking up the different classes and the roles they can play in a party, and see what appeals to you. I have a friend with a level 70 hunter who started a priest on a whim and discovered that she really liked healing more than beating stuff up, even from a distance…

I'd check out the Warcraft webite, see what LOOKS good to you (you dont want to play a toon that makes you cringe every time you log on – which is why I cant use a gnome for anything more than a bank alt – but thats a personal preference ) and then just play with it a bit, see how it feels to you. Or, you could save yourself some time if you really arent sure and watch some WoW videos on youtube. There are videos of every class/race combo that someone is showing off with…PvP and PvE…so that may give you a good idea what each class is capable of and what they look like in action.
