Warcraft Guide bought but has issues.?
By admin | July 16, 2009
Of coarse its a Warcraft guide. You know the ones, that show a booklet and are hyping their product up. Well she bought into the whole scheme, under the impression that the guide was a book and would be shipped to her.
Well its not, its pages upon pages of downloads of documents made with Microsoft Word, Notepad, and Adobe Acrobat. I know you can get Adobe for free but Word you have to pay for to view the documents. So finally got adobe downloaded on the computer and went to get a adobe compatable guide… I opened it up to see something about copyright and the document being seeded?
Okay, couple problems. One, my mother was mislead by a booklet picture when the actual product is NOT a book but instead a downloadable document. Two, the documents are in all sorts of formats to which she doesnt have nor want to go through the trouble of purchasing/download them all. Three, she paid with paypal and now wants to cancel off the order as she was mislead and doesnt have the resources to even open all the documents for viewing.
So, how can a person go through all this and get the money back that they had used to purchase this horrid product? She said she contacted paypal (bout 5 hours after purchase) and ask to be refunded. They referred her back to the site.
Now, since I got one document opened and seen the word seeded… I dont know if that means that they know the document was downloaded or just plain opened? That could create a problem since we cant access the other documents but we did get one of them opened finally. Will paypal back them up just because we got the one opened or is there still hope of getting her money back?
First, you don’t need Word to view Word files; do a search for "free .doc viewer" and you’ll get tons that you can use.
Second, contact the seller. Tell them abou the issues you’re having opening the pdf files. There might be a password or something that is needed.
Third, you CAN open a ticket with PayPal for an intangible good that was not as described. (I just did it recently with a tangible good that was never delivered.) Just look up PayPal’s resolution center on their site.
My first advice would be to contact the seller. Assuming they are legitimate, they should help you out. Try that first. Print out all of the pages and put them into booklet form for her, should they help you out. Otherwise, try to cancel the sale through PayPal. I think you have to wait a certain numer of days before you can put in a ticket.

To be honest, these digital goods don’t normally go down too well on returns. Unless you can find proof that they sold her an item while indicating they were offering something else, I don’t THINK you have a claim.
An example of this was back when people were bidding on pictures of the PSP – and couldn’t get a refund as the eBay lot said it was a picture, just in small print. =\
I hope that’s not the case. Make sure to read everything on the place she bought it, check returns policies if there is one and be careful with things like this in the future.
I truly hope you get your refund.
