I’m completely new to the game and I want like a step by step kind of thing that will tell me what to do to actually make good progress rather than wandering around wasting time and trying to figure out what to do. Do you know of any guides that would serve this purpose?

wow is extremely easy to solo progress

there are few websites that have guides and other stuff
www.wow.com
www.wowiki.com

and i recommend getting the ‘quest helper’ addon. it will save you time on wondering around looking for things. however it will take away the fun of exploring and learning the lore.
wow is very much based on a massive storyline so its good to know some of the lore.
