I'm a lvl 15 human priest on WOW w/profession in leather&skinning, should I change? and what to?

By admin | July 7, 2008

What would have a better profession for a priest have been? Is it too late to change professions?

At level 15 you still have plenty of time to choose a new profession. I definitely would change though because leatherworking is absolutely useless to a priest.

There are a couple of different thoughts:

-You are looking for cash, nothing else-
Keep skinning and pick up another gathering skill such as mining or herbalism (both have pros and cons), sell everything on AH. I'd say try not to do both herbalism and mining because you can only track one type of thing on your minimap at once. If you are tracking minerals you can't track herbs and vice versa.

-You are looking for a profession that is beneficial to your class-
Go either tailoring/enchanting or herbalism/alchemy. You will make more side money with herbalism/alchemy but there are some very, very nice tailor-only patterns that are available later in the game. You can also disenchant all the stuff you make leveling tailoring to get mats for enchanting. You can also disenchant useless quest rewards and old soulbound items. As an alchemist you can make sure you are never without mana potions (very important to priests) and stat enhancing elixirs.

You got to figure out what you are looking to get from a profession and then choose accordingly.

The skinning / leather profession is great if you can only wear leather armor [such as a night elf druid]. You can eventually build up your skill to make great custom leather outfits, as well as other things. Remember, you get skinning exp. for skinning certain dead animals, and you get leather exp. by making leather items. Also a great way to earn some extra cash.

Personally when I played I found things Way better(most of the time) than anything I could make in Tailoring, BUT you can still make some pretty good hold over items and other goods that sell to people that need them for quests and etc.
The Gatherer skills yeild no goods that can be used immediately, but can sell for a bunch to people who are too lazy to gather themselves or are in a pinch/hurry to make something for themselves.
+Skinning I have to say yeilded money at an average rate overall due to animals/skinnable NPCs all over the place. You get special skins later that are worth quite a bit more and they provide little boosts to your income when you do pawn them off.
+Mining yeilded tons of cash due to high costs of stone, gems/jewels and ore/bars you put for sale(well, my server at least). The only problem was that it was alot slower and time consuming, so it was a big burst seller.
+Herbalism is just like skinning as in I mean there are tons of herbs for the umm, picking lol…. But some sell well, some dont, find whats easy to aquire and sells well and split it with another gatherer skill to supplement your income.
+Enchanting, well now you have to skill up to keep being a disenchanter which hurts but is good too because you can buff your own gear cheap or free and sell off whatever supplies your BoP gear you dungeon dive for yeilds and you dont need. I'd describe this one as burst high and low priced sales. You can sell some things for a ton, or a ton of this for squat, check the markets….
    Good Luck!
