The only way this can happen is if you specifically begin a character on a foreign server. If you are in the U.S., you will normally be assigned to a U.S. server and vice versa.

They can if they edit a particular file in the WoW directory. Otherwise, by default they can only play on U.S servers.

It does matter on where you live though. People in South Asia and Asia Pacific play on US servers. People in places such as China and Korea have their own servers to play on.

It’s frowned upon by Blizzard though, and if caught doing so you will be taken action against.

    Of course you can.
The file “realmlist.wtf” is the guider for the server you connect to. If you have an US-edition, of course you will connect to US realm.

Yes you can. When you first make a character instead of just going to the server they assign, click on the change realm or view realm buttong (I can’t remember which) and then you can check the box that isn’t the US servers.

Yes, but you need a US version of the game. I live in England and play on US servers.

    YES this is possible.
All you have to do is contact Blizzard and ask for a US server.
i have been in germany and on the Us server for about 2 years now I live in the US thats why I wanted a State side server. I plan to return to the US and play wow there.
My issue is when I do go to the US they will block my account because of the huge IP address change, but all I have to do is call them up and reactivate my account once I verify my info with them.
Also Gold farmers (IM Sure You Aware if Them) 90 % are from china. they use US accounts and sell gold in the states this is also proof that it can happen.
