Can I install Wrath of the Lich King without installing Burning Crusade?
By admin | December 17, 2009
Alright well I have Burning Crusade and all but I’m having problems installing it. If anyone has any idea how I can install it or answer my original question that would be great.
Also if I can install Wrath of the Lich King without the Burning Crusade, will I be able to get to level 80? And stuff like that?

No, BC is required along with the original WoW to install WotLK. How can you hope to progress through levels 60-70 when nothing on the original two continents possesses no content for that level range? You have no choice but to go to Outland, especially if you solo level.

You need The Burning Crusade for The Wrath of the Lich King. You need normal World of Warcraft for The Burning Crusade.

no, you have to have TBC before WOTLK, TBC has the only places to level up from 60-70; if you’re having problems installing it, download it from worldofwarcraft.com, dont use the disc, the discs always have problems for some reason but you’ll need to keep the authentication key code from the retail version to allow your account to access TBC content

Expansions for WoW are additive.
That is, you will not be able to get full WotLK features without BC installed. Like getting to level 80.
If you already have an account, I would log in to the website and under account administration, download the universal client. One client, any expansion. All you need to do is register the code for your expansions to get your account upgraded to BC.

Look at the cover of WotLK there is not a sticker but a small circle painted in it. Requires Burning Crusade. But as for the install all you need is the Lich King disc. On this is contains all 3 games WoW, WoW: BC, and WoW: WotLK) so if your not sure at what point an install you have. (1.8 or 2.2 or 3.0.8) simply uninstall the game and reinstall off the WotLK disc and that will get you to 3.0.1. But before you do uninstall and reinstall back up you WTF folder inside the WoW directory.
And as for the second Question, No you need to have a WoW + BC + WotLK account to get to 80. this game is not like everquest and other MMOs where some Expantions are optional
