How can i download the wrath of the lich king with out runtime errors?

Im having trouble, i tried downloading the wrath of the Lich king for world of warcraft on my pc and it just isn’t going well it would reach up to 44% and say i have a "Run time error C++" and i don’t know what that means?
i think its because i don’t have the disc but that’s because i haven’t bought it yet. so is there any way i can download the game with out the errors and for Free?
