Is it possible to download the wrath of the lich king without the original world of warcraft?

By admin | May 20, 2009

Today I went to the world of warcraft website and started downloading the Wrath of the lich king under game guide ( http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml )

I have an account from the original WoW game I just cant have the key from the box and idk if that will make a difference. Basically did the original game download when I downloaded the wrath of the lich king?

When you download the World of Warcraft client, everything you need from the original World of Warcraft, to Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King are already in it. You will be able to see Draenei, Blood Elves and death knights in Stormwind, Orgrimmar etc.

However, if your account is only the original World of Warcraft type, you will not be able to access the Draenei and Blood Elf starting locations, Outland and Northrend. You will not be able to make a Draenei or Blood Elf character, nor can you make a Death Knight, even if one of your characters has met the level requirement.

The client program is free and regularly updates itself to the "newest version" of World of Warcraft. What you can do in the game is limited by what type of account you have, basic or basic + Burning Crusade or basic + Burning Crusade + Wrath of the Lich King.

In World of Warcraft, the client or the program you install on your PC is the tip of the iceberg. I think about 80% of World of Warcraft is actually housed where Blizzard keep their servers and data storage.

Yes, when you download the Wrath of the Lich King, you are downloading the original WoW game, and the Burning Crusade game, and the Wrath of the Lich King game, along with all the recent patches that are available.

You will have to "Upgrade" your account from the Original WoW game, to the Burning Crusade game, then to the Wrath of the Lich King game. This can all be done on the official WoW website, under "Manage Account". There should be an option to "Upgrade Account". Upgrading your account basically gives you a key for each each game. In order to use the Wrath of the Lich King game, you will need a key from the original WoW game, along with a key from the Burning Crusade game. But you don't need to go out and buy a copy of each game, you can just buy the keys from WoW by "upgrading your account".

Here is a link to electronically upgrade your account:
